Over the last 10 years we have raised nearly £16 million for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign - see how we achieved this on our timeline below.
ASDA launched the 'Tickled Pink' campaign back in 1997 to highlight the importance of breast awareness as early detection is key, and to raise the vital funds required to support people affected by breast cancer.
A partnership with Breast Cancer Care was formed to support the provision of 'free' breast cancer information and support services. In our first year alone we raised a phenomenal £530,000 for Breast Cancer Care.
In 1998 our challenge was to maintain the momentum of the first year and keep the contributions rolling in for Breast Cancer Care - through fundraising activities alone we managed to raise an additional £130,000, taking the total raised so far up to £660,000!
1999 started out well, with Breast Cancer Care's Patron Cherie Booth QC supporting our Tickled Pink campaign, by modelling one of our T-shirts at our Wembley store!
Fundraising also took a wilder and wackier turn, with the introduction of colleagues dunked in a bath of pink custard across our stores and depots, helping us raised an additional £370,000, taking our fundraising total to date over £1 million!
Following on from the success of Cherie in a Tickled Pink T-shirt in 2000, Liz Hurley asked to be involved in our campaign to help raise awareness of breast cancer and provide recognition for all the hard work our colleagues and customers put into raising money for this campaign.
This year we raised over £270,000 which took the total to approximately £1.3 million!
2001 saw the start of a new era with an increased range of Tickled Pink branded and supporting products and the introduction of waxing as part of the fundraising fun! We raised a fantastic £670,000, which enabled the opening of a Breast Cancer Care centre based in Sheffield by Cherie Booth QC, offering dedicated and personal support, for people affected in the northern part of the UK.
The total raised so far throughout the campaign had reached a phenomenal £1.9 million!
The sixth year of the campaign saw the launch in partnership with Glamour Magazine - the extra coverage and awareness of our campaign during 2002 helped us raise over £1 million for the first time within a year!
This raised the total to date to £2.9 million!
This year marked Breast Cancer Care's 30th anniversary and to celebrate its relationship with ASDA, its patron Cherie Booth QC was photographed wearing a Tickled Pink T-shirt which appeared on the front page of the Daily Telegraph!
2003 was also famous for the world record breaking sing-along to Louise Redknapp's 'Don't give up' Tickled Pink single.
All this activity helped us raise a staggering £2 million, taking the total up to £4.9 million!
ASDA held its first Tickled Pink concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2004, with Ronan Keating's Tickled Pink song 'I hope you dance' headlining.
This event was attended by top celebrities and gained national press coverage providing even greater awareness of ASDA's campaign.
This year's Tickled Pink campaign raised over £3 million, bringing the total raised for Breast Cancer Care over the last 8 years up to £7.9 million!
In 2005 ASDA's Tickled Pink campaign extended its partnership to include Breast Cancer Campaign, as well as Breast Cancer Care. We had the Sugababes headline the Royal Albert Hall concert and our colleagues and customers really got behind the campaign to help us raise over £3.5 million.
The total raised over the last 9 years for breast cancer charities has reached a fantastic £11.4 million!
To celebrate Tickled Pink's tenth anniversary in 2006, we held fundraising activities throughout the year selling products linked to key events such as Mother's Day, and an even greater range of products which included T-shirts for men!
This combined with some fantastic fundraising activity enabled us to raise £4.2 million, which takes our total to date for our breast cancer charities to nearly £16 million!
